7-Day Parent Tech Setup Plan

One calm task per day for a safer, easier family handoff.

Start with the routine, not another device. Use this plan to find the biggest source of friction, make one reversible change, and test it with the parent involved.

Who this plan is for

Use it when an aging parent and a trusted helper want fewer confusing phone prompts, missed calls, scam-message decisions, or repeated support calls. The account owner should remain involved and understand every change.

One calm task per day

Day 1: Pick one recurring problem

Choose the task that causes the most repeated help: answering a call, finding a contact, starting a video call, charging the phone, or recognizing a suspicious message.

Day 2: Write the normal route

Record the safe sequence of screens or buttons. Do not record passwords, one-time codes, account numbers, recovery codes, medical details, or addresses.

Day 3: Make one reversible improvement

Increase text size, pin a trusted contact, simplify the home screen, or move a confusing shortcut. Avoid unrelated changes.

Day 4: Test without coaching

Ask the parent to repeat the normal task while the helper watches. If the route is still confusing, return to the last working setup.

Day 5: Add a pause rule

Agree that unexpected requests for money, codes, remote access, or urgent account action should pause until the family verifies the request through a known official route.

Day 6: Confirm the family handoff

Write down who can help, how to reach that person, and which official support page belongs to the device or service. Keep private credentials with the account owner.

Day 7: Review and stop

Keep what reduced friction and undo what did not. Choose at most one next task for the following week.
